HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Today is my mom's birthday. I have been mentally preparing myself for this day for weeks now and I actually did pretty well. It really helped that I had preschool all day! Last night, while talking to the kids, we decided to celebrate with a dinner just like we would if she were here. Alyssa and Ashlee made a cake. I am not sure what her favorite cake was but the only cake I remember seeing her eat was German chocolate (which happens to be my favorite cake!) so that is what we made! She loved Olive Garden soup, salad, and breadsticks so Dave stopped on the way home and got take out and we had a birthday dinner for Grandma! It was actually fun. We talked about some of the funny things she did and the memories the kids have of her. We all cried, especially me, when we sang "Happy Birthday" but that is OK. The tears are good sometimes. I miss my mom terribly and I hope she knows we did not forget her day!

just a note about the cake.....I had every intention of putting candles on the cake and we would all blow them out together but Ashlee has a fit. She was sobbing that we could not blow candles out on Grandma's cake only "she" could blow her birthday candles out so we skipped the candles and dried up her tears!

It is a family tradition for one of the sisters to post fun stuff about the "birthday girl" in the family. We all take turns as to who will post about which sister. We decided to do one for mom. Go here http://gobroncos-stephensfam.blogspot.com/ if you would like to read it! Emily did a great job!

That was so sweet of your hubby to pick up take out at OG. What a great way to remember your mom.

That is one one the most beautiful things I've heard of to remember a loved one. I'm sure your mom was watching and wishing she could join you. We will have to do that on my Dad's birthday. We always celebrate his favorite things on the day he passed away. I think the birthday idea is fantastic!
