SOMETHING NEW

So have you ever looked at your life and thought, "What is this? I don't remember changing my identity?" One year ago things were one way and now I feel like I have jumped into a whole new life....well rather a whole new life has just JUMPED on me! Since it seems that everything I knew as "LIFE" was different I figured it was as good a time as any to get some new hobbies. There were really two main reasons for this....

First, things I used to do just don't seem as interesting anymore. Many of them, in one way or another, have something to do with my Mom. We would read the same books, watch the same cooking shows and talk about recipes, paint the same way...or at least "talk" about someday doing a certain faux finish to a room. Now all those things seem boring to me.....TIME FOR A NEW HOBBY! Second, my kids say I am driving them nuts! I am telling my teenagers "I love you" too much and making them kiss me and hug me all the time. Tyler (my almost 15 year old boy) is mortified! He even locked himself in the bathroom yesterday while I laughed trying to use fingernail clippers to open the door! He said I am weird and need to find something to do! I must add that he did indeed kiss me on the cheek because I very bravely....since he is quite a bit bigger then me.....prevented his escape by blocking the doorway! SO, now I find myself sewing a quilt.....Voila....NEW HOBBY

This "something to do" of mine actually started on the Saturday of conference as I cut up old jeans I had been saving for years, I might add, to make a picnic quilt. 2 months later I have a large pile of denim squares and have done nothing with them. Then our RS decided to make quilts for those in need at Christmas. This helped me move along on my new found, lost, then found again desire to learn to make a quilt! The outcome....fat quarters all cut and sewn together for the RS, a pile of denim squares with some coordinating fabric ready to be cut and pieced together, and a very happy son that is not being chased around the house by his mother demanding he say, "Love you MOMMY"

GOOD FOR YOU! Sewing is nothing but stressful to me, making me think all kinds of naughty words when it doesn't come out like it looked in my head. My mom, on the other hand, could sew for hours "just for fun." I can relate to the "rediscovering" of a hobby though...reading the Twilight series got me into reading again (too much, Roger says), something I used to do and love all through junior high/high school and then up until the time I got engaged...then I just didn't have the time (or energy?). So here I am, 14 years later, devouring books and being known on a first name basis at the library down the street, my second home ;) HOORAY FOR SEASONS OF LIFE!

Funny! I so agree! I don't even look the same anymore...who is that wrinkly old lady in the mirror directly in front of me?

Fun! I'm excited to see your progress on the picnic quilt. I started a collection of jeans once, but gave up and donated the lot about a year later. Now I wish I hadn't. Keep up the great work!

I can just hear Mom saying I would rather eat dirt! Mom actually was a excellent seamstress. Good for you! Figure it out so you can show me.

You're right, I'm never riding that dang sky coaster again! I didn't even open my eyes and it still scared the poop out of my, almost literally! Will you tell Davey to send me the boating pics he took with his phone?
